Pools are one of the most expensive elements of your outdoor space and aren’t cheap to maintain or alter. Therefore, the consideration and amount of planning that goes into a new pool shouldn’t be underestimated.

Finding The Right Pool Design Inspiration

If you’re considering a pool, make sure you thoroughly research the type of design that meets your needs. As well as this, think about the aesthetic that complements your home and the surrounding landscape.

In the video below, Dean Herald from Rolling Stone Landscapes, Raoul van de Laak from Good Manors and Matt Bramley from Splish Splash Pools share their expert advice of how to source pool design inspiration to suit your needs.

Scouring pool design inspiration online is a great starting point

Dean explains: “When choosing to install a pool, there’s a lot of inspiration out there now. Obviously with social media and Instagram and magazines, anything, you could really find a lot of different inspirations. You’re going to be attracted to different shapes, different water colour.

“Find out what suits you, what you’re attracted to”, Dean suggests.

Mix several ideas to create a design unique to your tastes and needs

Raoul agrees, searching for pool design inspiration online is a great starting point. “I think the best thing is to go to the great websites – Houzz and Pinterest and Instagram – things like that and then just select a variety of pools you like.

“Sometimes you like coping from one pool and the colour from another one. So once you get that together, then talk to a landscape designer or architect to design it all,” he adds.

Consider your pool in relation to the overall design

“I think the most important that people go wrong is that they don’t have an overall design of the whole garden when they’re thinking of a pool”, explains Raoul.

Matt also believes considering your pool in relation to the entire outdoor space will determine its success. “Take to your designer some amazing pictures that represent exactly what you want. But also consider what your house looks like, what your neighbours’ houses look like… What are the trees around, what’s going influence the overall design?”

He suggests looking at award sites, Master Builders and SPASA at the award-winning pools to gather ideas for to discuss with your chosen design team.
