Located in a seaside suburb, the brief for this project called for the design of a functional outdoor living space that catered to an active and growing family. The client wished to retain the coastal aesthetic while at the same time adding both function and a sense of character to the outside space that would work in tandem with the home’s architecture.
High retaining walls were clad in Coolum Random Ashlar walling to offer textural relief and amplify the sense of space around the garden while top plating and climbers add further depth and texture.
A long, modern rectangular pool forms one side of the garden, departing directly from the back of the house and fenced with clear glass panels again to add to the feeling of open space. The Capri travertine pool coping follows through in a modular pattern as the flooring for the entertaining area off the back of the house, as well as forming a path that runs the length of the property.
The large lawn area was necessary for family games of sport and the pared-back, modern planting scheme breathes color and freshness into the design, completing the coastal essence of the home.
The outcome is a delightful, beautifully designed outdoor living space that can be enjoyed by adults and children alike for years to come.
