New Living on Grand Scale

With a design brief that aspired to meet the requirements of a growing family with four children, this project has seen the creation of a remarkable city residence. The home features grand proportions, with an L-shape design allowing for separate zones that cater for different and shifting needs; children’s areas for play, sleep and study; a separate parents’ retreat, as well as formal living spaces for entertaining and areas where the family can come together.

Located on a steep block, the property was positioned and dug into the site to ensure the required accommodation needs and sufficient garaging underneath were achieved. Added to this, the site’s location along a main road called for the creation of privacy which was a key challenge of the brief.

Large blade walls accomplish separation while enhancing the sculptural form and grand proportions of the home. Certain walls also display Howqua free form walling , which instills a textural, rugged quality in the build.

The generous open-plan living spaces flow out on to an extensive terrace that travels from inside to outside and maximizes the city views – while the L-shape design and orientation of the home affords intimacy to the terrace and pool deck from adjoining neighbors. As well as the large terrace, a lawn area at the front connects to the home with oversized, custom bluestone pavers and serves as an additional play area for growing boys.

These fascinating design factors combine to present a sumptuous family home, positioned to perfectly capture city views while staying secluded and private – perfect for a young family to grow into.
