Town Garden Getaway

For this ‘town garden’ project to meet both aesthetic and structural requirements, the design had to take into account of an existing double garage located directly below.

It was crucial that the team engaged this particular challenge by addressing all weight-bearing issues in the concept stage, as well as factoring in waterproofing.

At the outset, the site was cleared of previous materials and a series of rooms within the garden was developed. One of the key features of this project was the reuse of materials, with existing bricks used to create a three-tier water feature that acts to diffuse the din naturally generated from city living with its gentle sounds.

As the garden lives in the shadows of surrounding buildings, plant species were carefully chosen and a crane was used to lift mature plants into the garden for immediate impact from day one. In terms of flora, mature plantings of bamboo, magnolias, oak leaf hydrangeas and a spectacular feature maple collaborate to form privacy and a stunning, secluded garden.

Bluestone paving and Alpine dry stone walling, for elevated garden beds, work in effortlessly with the overall design and ensure a low-maintenance, natural stone finish that is beautiful underfoot.

The result is a spectacular urban outdoor space that acts as a private, soothing place of retreat.
